Since graduating from my MA at Camberwell in late 2024, my practice has grown from freelancing into an independent brand: Made By Niki Usagi. It all kicked off when I won a window display competition at not just a shop. Their team encouraged me to turn my illustrations into products, and I haven't looked back! My first tea towel collaboration was a success and they started to stock my prints and greeting cards. The sales and the feedback urged me to join the Top Drawer 2026 trade show as a UAL alumna. I walked away with immediate orders and have since built a loyal following of retailers through the Faire marketplace.
I’m so proud to create "affordable art" that stays true to my values. I work exclusively with small, independent UK manufacturers who care about sustainability as much as I do, ensuring every piece is as ethical as it is unique.
My business is built on the belief that "affordable art" should benefit everyone involved: from the maker to the end user. By transforming my illustrations into accessible products like giclée prints and textiles, I provide high-quality, everyday art that remains attainable without the "luxury" price tag.
Socially and economically, I prioritise the local creative economy. I bypass mass-produced imports to partner exclusively with small, family-run UK manufacturers. These collaborations foster mutual growth and offer consumers a meaningful, transparent alternative to the high street.
Environmentally, sustainability is non-negotiable. I use eco-conscious materials and ethical production methods to ensure that my growth doesn't come at the planet's expense. Ultimately, my goal is to prove that a thriving business can be a force for good, supporting local craftsmanship while bringing conscious, beautiful design into people’s homes.
